How to Calculate a Grade Percentage

Converting points to a percentage is simple. Divide the points you earned by the total points possible, then multiply by 100. The result is your percentage grade.

Grade % = (Points Earned ÷ Points Possible) × 100

Example 1: 45 out of 50 points
Grade % = (45 ÷ 50) × 100 = 90% → A−

Example 2: 42 out of 50 points
Grade % = (42 ÷ 50) × 100 = 84% → B

Example 3: 32 out of 35 points
Grade % = (32 ÷ 35) × 100 = 91.43% → A−

Example 4: 17 out of 20 points
Grade % = (17 ÷ 20) × 100 = 85% → B
  1. Enter points earned. This is how many points you received on the assignment. For example, if your score is 45/50, enter 45.
  2. Enter points possible. This is the maximum number of points available. In a score of 45/50, the possible points are 50.
  3. Read your result. Your percentage, letter grade, GPA equivalent, points lost, and points needed for the next grade appear instantly.
  4. Use the bulk converter if you need to convert several assignment scores at once.
